Project Description
17-19 March 2023.
As featured in the UK’s Olive Magazine, our very popular truffle themed weekend takes place in March each year and often coincides with the stunning almond blossom. Teruel province is now the world’s largest producer of truffles. Around 90% of output is exported to France, meaning that many truffles sold as French actually originate in Teruel. The variety grown here is the melanosporum, also known as the Perigord truffle. The weekend features truffle hunting with our truffle expert José Manuel and his dog Perla who scours the oak forest floor around the masia for the subterranean jewels.
The weekend begins with relaxing in the masia on the Friday evening with dinner available if desired. After a continental breakfast on Saturday morning, guests are invited to meet José Manuel our truffle hunter who will explain how the truffle grows, how the business works and the all important ‘Teruel’ truffles. Guests then join the hunt which begins as Perla the dog eagerly forages amongst the oak trees in the hills around the masia.
After finding enough truffles, guests are free to visit the surrounding estate, walking the beautiful tracks and paths that wind through the forest and almond groves and lead up to a dramatic 360 degree view point of the lake and mountains of Matarraña. All this should help work up an appetite for our wonderful evening truffle dinner, washed down with local wines and perhaps a whisky or two…
